Pre Season Camp in Esperance

The Subiaco Football Club will embark on a pre-season camp in Esperance from 6 to 8 February.

The coaching staff aim to challenge the players by introducing them to a range of activities that are foreign to footballers.  The purpose is to take them out of their usual comfort zone and for them to learn from new experiences.  The theme of the camp is “to teach old dogs new tricks”.

The camp will also see the Subiaco players and coaches engage with the community by conducting football skill clinics, coaching sessions and interaction with a wide variety of the Esperance community.  For example on Friday night all coaches and players will attend a local bingo function.

To show Subiaco’s total commitment to its country zone the Board of Directors will also travel to Esperance and while there they will hold their monthly Board meeting, followed by a strategic planning session. The Shire of Esperance has graciously provided their Chambers to facilitate the Board meeting and planning session.

Subiaco President Neil Randall said “we have developed a close relationship with the Esperance District Football Association since being allocated this area since 2004.

In the past five years a WAFL league game has been played in the town and Subiaco conducts its annual holiday coaching clinic in July”.

Randall praised the work of the EDFA President; “Tony Power does a first-rate job, he recognises the importance that football plays in a small community and at the same time he wants the talented players to achieve their best”.

Subiaco looks forward to producing its first league player from the Esperance District.  Currently Julian Jacobs, who won the Reserves fairest and best in 2008, Rhett Kerr and Abe Davey are part of the senior squad and will be pushing for league selection in 2009.  Additionally there are about 10 players from Esperance in the Subiaco Colts squad this year.
