AFL Game At Medibank Stadium A Huge Success

A crowd of 7279 turned up to Medibank Stadium on 6th March to watch a pre-season AFL NAB Challenge game hosted by the Town of Vincent together with the Subiaco and East Perth Football Clubs.  West Coast Eagles delighted their fans with a comprehensive win over Carlton.

Medibank Stadium (formerly Leederville Oval)  has proved to be a first choice of venues to play big games that cannot be hosted at Subiaco Oval.  This is the second AFL pre-season game played at Medibank Stadium with the first being between West Coast Eagles and Hawthorn in 2005.  In recent years this venue has also hosted numerous State games and WAFL finals.

The teams were very complimentary of the first rate facilities at Medibank Stadium.  Subiaco CEO Jeff Lind said “the investment by the Town of Vincent and the improvements made by the Subiaco and East Perth Football Clubs has ensured that Medibank Stadium is regarded as the best community based sporting venue in WA”.  On the 22nd May this year Medibank Stadium will host the State game WA vs Victoria.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity by Town of Vincent CEO, John Giorgi, to toss the coin.  It was a rare opportunity to meet two greats of the game in Darren Glass and Chris Judd, the respective captains of Westr Coast and Carlton.
