Colts Report - Subi vs Swans

The 1st quarter the players really came out and tried to assert themselves in the contest. We were winning the contested football around the stoppages and we were out numbering Swans around the ground when the ball was in dispute. The delivery of the ball inside 50 was hurting us, poor foot skills and dropped marks allowed Swans to rebound too easy against us. Swans went inside their 50 9 times for 4 goals and we went inside 50 11 times for 1 goal 1point. We just couldn’t capitalise on our hard work up the field with score board pressure.

The second quarter was very similar to the first, turnovers and poor decision making cost us on the score board with Swans getting 3 late goals in the quarter to extend their lead to 6gls at half time. This definitely wasn’t a true indication of how hard the players were working for each other. In previous weeks our backline was unaccountable but not today, Swans had to work for every goal they scored in the 1st half. It was a very positive talk at half time, focusing on the boys great work rate and to reassure them that if we improved our delivery inside 50 we would get the results.

In the 2nd half the game started to open up which was suiting us, as the players work rate to run and receive the football was at its best for the year. Opportunities were starting to present up fwd, Pickett, Ashman, Hoskins and Wade really got the team going with some hard run through the midfield. The delivery of the ball improved to our forwards and we able to outscore Swans in this quarter. The last qtr was much same we dominated play for most of the quarter except when Swans got 2 cheap goals in the last 5min of the game.

The positive’s to take away from the game was that players played 3 very competitive quarters of football, however the 1st quarter hurt us with missed opportunities. With only two men on the bench by half time the player’s had work even harder for each other. I am sure that if the players come with same attitude in the coming weeks, but with improved kicking to our fwd’s, a win won’t be too far away.

Look forward to seeing you all next week.
