Colts Coaches Report Rd 17 v West Perth

Starting at the unusual time of 5:00pm Saturday night the boys were looking forward to the challenge of playing in form West Perth who have won their last couple of games against some quality opposition.  We went into the game with confidence after some great sessions on the track leading up to Saturday night.

An even first quarter saw either side take control. A great goal on the run from youngster Kobie Somers closed the margin to just 7 points at Quarter time. Justin Joyce in his first game & Alan Jones in his second had a great first quarter winning plenty of the footy through the middle. The second quarter saw West Perth start to take control of the game kicking the first couple of goals to extend their lead to 4 goals midway through the second term. A long bomb from 55 meters from our Centre Half Back Nick Hay swung the game as we kicked two quick goals to bring it back to 13 points nearing the main break. A free kick seconds before the break gave us an opportunity to move within a goal but we were unable to capitalise.

After working our way back into the game, West Perth came out and kicked 4 goals to nothing for the quarter to be 35 points up going into the final term. Our pressure and work ethic dropped off and West Perth were more efficient going forward.  In the final term it was all West Perth as we were unable to kick a few early goals to reduce the margin. After a competitive first half it was disappointing to drop off our hard work in the second half.

Congratulations to first gamer Justin Joyce who is from Carine JFC/Trinity. Justin has progressed through the development squads of the last couple of years. He is currently playing school footy with Trinity but has another year of colts next year so we are looking forward to having him playing more regularly next year.

This week we come up against South Fremantle at 9:15am.

Thanks for your support.
