Update on Cam Keevers

2010 WA Road Racing Championships - Promoted by the Motorcycle Racing Club of WA

Injury free In Round 2 saw Cam dominate all 3 races on Sunday and take the round win putting himself in second position in the championship!  Considering the bike was in pieces with no engine just days before this was an excellent result with very little bike practice so far this year.  The results from the weekend are a very good sign that Cam is adapting quickly to his first year in the Superbike class and a natural progression should see him step up the pace in the 3 remaining state rounds this year.  Cam's Comments:

"I really enjoyed the weekend as I had such a good feeling with the bike as soon as I jumped on it. We haven't had a lot of time to test the new engine and suspension out so we pretty much turned up and hoped for the best! I have been training hard with my fitness and will keep doing all the right things so we are in a position to win the championship come the last rounds in September!  A huge thanks to my mechanic Stephan Pesch who worked hard all week to get my bike together, it wouldn't have been possible without him. Thanks also to Andy Offer for supplying some brilliant K TECH suspension. Lastly I would like to thank new sponsor S & K Engineering who have joined the team which is great to see and I look forward to going for more wins with their name on the bike!!

Round 3 kicked off to a bad start for Cam with a rear shock absorber fault only allowing 1 practice session before the first of two 14 lap races. Mechanic Stephan Pesch worked fast to fix the problem and sure enough the bike was ready to go in time for the first race.  Cam got off to a good start and led the way around on the first lap only to be overtaken shortly on lap 2 and lap 3 - Cam had problems shifting gears at turn 1 and got a false neutral and lost time to the leader Ben Henry. Not long after on the same lap at the end of the fast main straight once again there were gear shift issues causing Cam to run off in the sand at turn 7 and unable to rejoin the race. Luckily there was no damage to machine or rider.  A close inspection of the bike revealed a problem with the clutch and this was quickly fixed for the final race of the day.  The down side of race one is that Cam had to start from last place on the grid in 18th and it would be a big challenge to make up positions.  Cam got away to a great start off the line and had made up 6 positions in the first few corners and was showing determination to make up for the bad luck in race 1.  By the 7th lap of the race Cam had passed every rider and pulled away to win the 12 lap race by over 3 seconds.  This was a great ride and scored much needed points which were lost early in the day.  Cam's Comments:

Definitely not a perfect day at the race track but I think we showed in the last race that we have what it takes when we get our bike right. It can't always go to plan but for round 4 we have some more bike improvements to come and I can't wait to get on the bike in 2 weeks for some practice to fine tune the bike and my riding. I think we can step up the pace in the last 2 rounds of the year and try to close the championship Gap which we could be leading if not for some bad luck!!
