100 Up for "Broady"

Not only does Blake Broadhurst play his 100th game this week but he has a unique opportunity in 2010 to be only the 2nd player to win the club’s fairest and best award in all three grades.

Brian Taylor achieved this in 1978 (Colts), 1979 (Reserves) and League in 1988.  Blake won the Colts in 2003, Reserves in 2004 and his stellar year in 2010 will put him in a strong position to repeat this unique triple.

Broady played with the Warwick-Greenwood JFC and made his debut under coach Peter German in 2004 as an 18 year old.  He has had the distinction of playing in league premiership teams 2006 and 2008, and he also played in reserves premierships in 2005 and 2006.

His career has steadily grown in stature after being overshadowed by the great forwards in Brad Smith, David Mapleston and Sam Larkins in his early years and he often had to hold a position on the half backline.  Since those players departure Broadhurst has become Subiaco’s key forward and he is the club’s leading goalkicker with 47 goals so far in 2010.

He was selected in the WA state team in 2008 and in 2009 was runner up to Subiaco’s fairest and best award.

Subiaco league coach Chris Waterman said “Blake is now one of the premier forwards in the WAFL and he has been our most productive forward this year.  His overhead marking is outstanding for a player who is 185cms and his best football is definitely still ahead of him”.
