Colts Coach's Report Rd 21 v East Fremantle

Another big challenge met us on Saturday when we came up against top of the ladder East Fremantle. A tight first term saw East Fremantle take a 19 point lead into quarter time with Joel Ashman & Myles Smythe impressing. The Sharks continued on in the second term and booted 5 goals to 1. Our pressure and accuracy with disposal was poor and something we had to quickly rectify if we were going to get back into the game. The scoreboard didn’t reflect the amount of footy and chances we had, just our execution letting us down.
We desperately needed to put some scoreboard pressure on early in the 3rd quarter if we were to pull off an upset.  Opportunistic goals from Alan Jones & Josh Horton-French early in the quarter saw us start to claw our way back into the game. Our intensity and accountability lifted as we closed within 5 goals.
The last quarter saw us out score East Fremantle as we used the ball well and created many chances up forward. We unfortunately were unable to string a couple of goals together and East Fremantle ended up winning by 43 points. The second half showed if we are on our game we can match it with the best teams in the competition. James Lee (27 Possessions) & Myles Smythe (25 possessions) were fantastic through the middle all day while Kyle Cranley (27 Hitouts) gave our midfielders plenty of supply. A good effort from the boys, improved from last week. With two games to go we want finish the year on a good note and will be looking for the 4 points this week against East Perth.
GOALS - Jones 2, Smythe, Hay, Horton-French, Waters, Cranley, Garcia, Singleton, Vlahos
BEST - Lee, Smythe, Cranley
