Subiaco’s RAP Officially Endorsed
The Subiaco Football Club and District's first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been officially endorsed by Reconciliation Australia making it the first state league club to have a plan in place. Subiaco FC has now joined the Essendon and Richmond Football Clubs having implemented a RAP.
Subiaco District Manager Ben Haywood said Subiaco’s response to the daunting challenge of Indigenous disadvantage represents the culmination of listening and engaging with Indigenous people and organizations.
“Together, we have defined how Subiaco can best make a difference to Indigenous Australians,” Mr Haywood said.
Subiaco Football Club CEO Peter Capes said: “Developing this action plan was a great opportunity to improve our focus on and involvement with Indigenous Australians; based on a framework of mutual respect and partnership,”
Subiaco sees its commitment being delivered in three key areas:
- Provide and promote opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people’s participation
- Develop genuine Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands partnerships through engagement, consultation, communication and negotiation.
- Establish new ways to ensure that we gain the appropriate knowledge and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island
“I’m confident the plan will change Subiaco for the better: I believe it will make a real difference to Indigenous Australians,” Mr Haywood Said
The Subiaco Football Club and District joins a growing community of organizations across all sectors implementing Reconciliation Action Plans, a program that was developed by Reconciliation Australia.
Reconciliation Australia’s Group Manager—Programs and Projects Sharona Torrens said: “Subiaco’s RAP shows a real commitment to improving the relationships between Subiaco and its Indigenous community. From here we look forward to working with the club and district to ensure its actions are carried out and its measures are achieved.
