Meet the Subiaco Grand Final Colts

This Sunday, Subiaco’s Colts aim to win just the third premiership in club history.

 

Should the young Lions claim the premiership on Sunday, an exclusive group of 40 players will be joined by another 23 as Colts premiership players of the club.

 

Take a look at the squad who will be looking to achieve premiership success this Sunday.

 

45 – Ben GOLDING

A hard working midfielder, forward, Golding has improved dramatically in 2018 and is a vital part of the Subiaco attacking half group. Since debuting in Round 6, Golding has played all bar one game, averaging 16 possessions across 14 games. His tackling pressure has been important with six tackles in his last four games.

 

43 – Christian MILLER-SABBIONI

In his first season with the Subiaco colts, Miller-Sabbioni has played five games in a variety of defensive rolls. Miller-Sabbioni who is still just 17, debuted in Round One of this year and has averaged over 12 possessions in his five games so far.

 

40 – Sam DI FRANCESCO

Di Francesco is a 17 year old, 205cm ruck prospect, who has backed up Xavier Peacock and Mach Deng across the year. Di Francesco played five games, averaging five possessions and 11 hitouts in those five apperances.

 

39 – Nic MARTIN

At just 17 years of age, Martin is one of the budding young stars of the Subiaco Colts side. He debuted in Round 11 and has played six games in the back half of the year. Martin has kicked goals in every game he has played and burst onto the colts scene with three goals in each of his first two games

 

38 – Mitch GEORGIADES

Georgiades is one of a group of young Subiaco players who comes from strong bloodlines as a father-son prospect of the club. Georgiades has mixed school footy between WAFL footy this year, playing five games in 2018 after debuting with a game in 2017. Georgiades has kicked goals in every game he has played for Subiaco in 2018 and is a dangerous threat inside forward 50.

 

37 – Abraham CLINCH

The hard working Clinch battled for opportunities early in 2018, but has made the most of his chances after getting a debut match in Round 6. Clinch has played 12 of a possible 15 games. Exploded after winning a recall in Round 18, picking up 20 possessions in four straight games to highlight his worth to the Subiaco side.

 

33 – Adam VALLELONGA

After playing five games in 2017, Vallelonga has been a mainstay of the Subiaco defensive group in 2018, playing 18 games and averaging 12 possessions. Vallelonga a popular members of the squad, is a no fuss player who simply gets his defensive job done, while also providing run and carry from defence.

 

32 – James PARNELL

Parnell has operated as a third defensive tall in the Subiaco colts backline across 2018. Parnell has played 11 games across the year, including the past six games. Parnell has averaged just over six possessions a game.

 

26 – Sam WEST

A versatile swingman throughout his colts career, West has shown strong growth for Subiaco in a defensive role in the back half of 2018. A key position prospect, West started 2018 up forward, but has grown into one of the most accountable defenders in the group and another who gives drive from defence.

 

25 – Xavier PEACOCK

One of the strong draft prospects of Subiaco’s colts program, Peacock has had a sensational turnaround season in 2018, becoming one of the premier big men of the competition. After debuting as a 16 year old in 2016, Peacock has played 21 games across three years, but 15 in 2018. Has averaged 22 hit-outs a game, but has shown a willingness to help at ground level with over three tackles a game. Can also hit the scoreboard highlighted by a four goal game against West Perth mid season.

 

22 – Luke FOLEY

Foley has rocketed up AFL Draft leaderboards in 2018, showing real growth and promise as a big bodied midfielder. After playing 19 games in 2017, a mix of state duty and injury has meant he has been limited to eight games in 2018. Those eight games have been outstanding though, averaging over 25 possessions and seven tackles a game.

 

20 – Josh LEUNIG

The defensive warrior of the Subiaco colts, Leunig has overcome extensive injuries across 2018 to be a valued contributor of the side. After playing moreso as a ruckman in 2017, Leunig has thrived in 2018 in a key defensive post, taking some of the biggest match-ups in Colts football. Is a consistent performer and underlines an unheralded defensive group.

 

18 – Jacob PELETIER

A running, creative half back flanker, Peletier has been another of the unsung players of a strong Subiaco defence. In his first season of colts football Peletier has played every game averaging just under 18 possessions a contest. Looms as an important player to give drive from behind in the Grand Final.

 

17 – Kyle STAINSBY

Stainsby has been a regular of the last two years for Subiaco’s colts, playing 37 of a possible 39 games. A versatile mid-sized player, Stainsby has played a number of attacking and defensive roles within the team. Stainsby is one who has embraced a physical approach from the side in 2018, averaging over five tackles including three games with more than 10 tackles.

 

16 – Taj SCHOFIELD

Schofield debuted in Round 1 this year, as a 15 year old, having graduated through the Subiaco 16s program. Burst on the scene across half forward with five goals in his first two weeks and has grown across the year both in roles up forward and through the midfield. Has averaged over 18 possessions a game including four games of more than 20 possessions.

 

15 – Wil HICKMOTT

One of two Hickmott brothers in the side, Wil is the younger brother of Liam, and has played 39 games in three years after debuting as a 15 year old in 2016. Hickmott has steadily increased his output in the midfield, averaging 22 possessions in 2018. Has the ability to play a number of roles within the midfield group for Subiaco.

 

14 – Zane SHELLABEAR-HEALY

The strongly built Shellabear-Healy is a powerful force within Subiaco’s midfield and forward rotation. After playing four games last year, Shellabear-Healy has played 18 games in 2018, averaging just under 20 possessions per game. Has had some scoreboard impact in the last four weeks with four goals in his last four games.

 

13 – Liam HICKMOTT

The reigning Subiaco colts fairest and best has been even better in 2018, with his great season rewarded with the Jack Clarke medal as the competition’s best player. Hickmott has averaged over 25 possessions per game and over seven tackles to be the key worked of the midfield group. One of few players to reach 50 colts games, with the colts Grand Final set to be his 53rd and last game at colts level.

 

12 – Mach DENG

Deng has formed a strong partnership and ruck tandem with Peacock in 2018. After playing 11 games in 2017, Deng has played every game in 2018, averaging over 23 hit-outs a game splitting time in the ruck and up forward. Deng is an even contributor at ground level averaging over eight possessions and three tackles as well.

 

11 – Jordan FARAONE

Faraone is a dangerous threat inside forward 50 for Subiaco. A nippy small forward with a silky left foot kick, Faraone has played 18 games in this his third season of colts footy. Has kicked 21 goals across the year, but has been especially threatening of late, with seven goals in the past three games including two in the second semi final.

 

10 – Jack MAYO

The WAFL’s leading goal kicker in colts in 2018, Mayo is the main focal point of the Subiaco side, a role that he has grown into and relished across the year. Mayo so far in 2018 has 48 goals in 19 game including a bag of six in round 10 and five in round 3 against Sunday’s opponent Swan Districts. A powerful mark and with a quick turn of pace on the lead, Mayo is the prototypical new age power forward in the game.

 

9 – Nathan FRENCH

The tough and physical French has overcome injuries to be a key contributor in the past six weeks for Subiaco up forward and in the midfield. French produced the best game of his career in the Second Semi final indicating he could be a big game player, finishing with 25 possessions and three goals. Looms as an X-Factor for Sunday’s Grand Final.

 

8 – Duane OXENHAM-SMITH

A member of the colts leadership group, Oxenham-Smith is in his third year with the Subiaco colts, having played 26 games across those three seasons. A dashing rebound defender, Oxenham-Smith has averaged just under 10 possessions a game in 13 in 2018 so far.

 

6 – Jake MCKINNON

McKinnon has enjoyed an outstanding first season with the Subiaco Colts, playing 18 games across the year and averaging just over 16 possessions. McKinnon has shown versatility in being able to play a number of roles within the team across the year. Has been another who has thrived in the physical side of the game, laying over seven tackles a game.

 

3 – Tristan HOBLEY

Overcame the disappointment of missing state selection in 2018, to become Subiaco’s most consistent midfielder across the year. Hobley played every game for the year, averaging over 26 possessions a game. The consistency of Hobley is seen with all bar one game, reaching 20 possessions and having five games of more than 30. Hobley is also an outstanding cricketer who has played underage for Australia and senior grade cricket in Perth.  

 

 1 – Madoc PLANE

Plane has become one of the best leaders in WAFL colts football and a big reason for Subiaco’s success with his on and off field leadership. On field Plane is a mainstay of the Subiaco defence, a defender with no frills who consistently wins his one on one battle. Plane offers real leadership on field with his direction from behind the ball. Is aiming to be just the third premiership captain of the Subiaco Colts side.
