Meet the Subiaco Reserves Grand Final Players

Subiaco’s Reserves are aiming at back-to-back premierships after winning in 2017 and progressing to the Grand Final in 2018.

 

There has been some turnover in the squad with up to 13 new faces likely from the 2017 premiership side.

 

Get a profile of those who will be looking to win another Reserves premiership for Subiaco.

 

63 – Max DENNIS

A graduate of the Subiaco colts program, Dennis has enjoyed a solid first season at senior level, spending time both in defence and in the midfield. Dennis has played 19 games so far this year averaging 12 possessions and four marks a game.

 

59 – Jakob ATKINSON

In his first season with Subiaco, Atkinson has been a mainstay of the Subiaco defensive group and has held down a number of key roles in the back six. Possessing a powerful kick and a strong body, he is routinely able to win one on one battles and provides great drive from defence for the Lions.

 

57 – Liam CONNOLLY

The Subiaco colts captain of 2017, Connolly overcame pre-season injury to debut mid-season and has gone on to play 10 Reserves games in 2018. A tall defender with strong athleticism, Connolly can play a number of different roles in the Subiaco defensive group.

 

56 – Travis CLEGGETT

A recruit from country side Collie, Cleggett has enjoyed a consistent first season with Subiaco. Has played all 20 games averaging just under 20 possessions per contest as one of the first midfielders selected in the Subiaco side. Has enjoyed playing Grand Final opponent East Perth, having a career best 27 possessions back in Round 11 against Sunday’s foes.

 

55 – David EHLERS

After transferring across to Subiaco this year, Ehlers has played 17 games, proving a strong marking threat inside forward fifty and a valuable third tall option. Ehlers had bags of four and two of three goals across the year finishing amongst the leading goal kickers for Subiaco’s reserves team.

 

54 – Tom EDWARDS-BALDWIN

Edwards-Baldwin has enjoyed a fine rookie season at senior level, playing 12 reserves games and eight league games in 2018. At reserves level has played both up forward and through the midfield, showing an ability to both hit the scoreboard and link play from the middle to attack. Showed his determination with a career high eight tackles in last week’s Preliminary Final.

 

51 – Daniel LEACH

The reigning Blakemore medal winner had an even better season in 2018, rewarded for his fine season with the Prendergast Medal as the WAFL Reserves best player. Leach played 18 games of reserves footy this year, also making his league debut with two games. At reserves level he averaged a tick under 25 possessions per game and laid over six tackles a game. Is one of the key ball winners of the reserves side.

 

49 – James ECCLES

Eccles has enjoyed a breakout reserves season, playing 17 games after just six games in the past two years. Eccles averaged just under 14 possessions across those games, including three straight games of more than 20 possessions. Is a valuable member of the Subiaco group.

 

48 – Mckenzie LAWRENCE

Another one of the young stars of Subiaco’s senior program, Lawrence made a league debut in 2018 playing seven league games. Also added 13 reserves games, playing a variety of roles up forward and in the midfield. Has proven to be a physical presence of the Subiaco side having over six tackles per contest.

 

47 – Jack BEVERLEY

Another product of the colts program, Beverley is a former colts captain. Beverley has played key roles across 2018 in both the midfield and the defence for Subiaco reserves. Beverley was on the cusp of league selection across the year and appears set to be one who will get future league opportunities in 2019 and beyond.

 

46 – Shannon NELSON

Nelson has played 10 games in 2018, overcoming injuries to play a key role at the end of the season. Nelson has averaged 11 possessions a game, including 10 possessions, 3 tackles and a goal in the second semi final. Adds valuable speed to the Subiaco forward group.

 

44 – Nick MENEGOLA

The speedster Menegola made a league debut for Subiaco in 2018, having played seven league and nine reserves games across the year. Menegola has averaged just under 18 possessions a game at reserves level this year proving to be a consistent member of the midfield with between 15 and 21 possessions in every reserves game.

 

43 – Ben REID

Reid continues to grow and develop as a mid sized defender who can take opposition mids and talls. Reid has played 42 of a possible 44 reserves games across the past two seasons and is one of the most consistent players of the reserves side. Was on the cusp of league selection during the year and seems a good prospect for the Subiaco league side in 2019. Aims to add a second premiership medal on Sunday.

 

41 – Ethan BURNETT

After a big pre-season Burnett made a league debut in round two, unfortunately suffering a long term injury in that game. Burnett made it back in Round 15 and played seven games from that point on averaging 10 possessions and four tackles a game.

 

37 – Daniel PERKINS

Perkins returned from long term injury just in time for Sunday’s Preliminary Final. Perkins had 18 possessions and kicked a goal in a sparkling return for the hard working midfielder forward. Across 2018 Perkins has played six games averaging 13 possessions a contest.

 

34 – Luke NORRISS

After two years out, Norriss returned to Subiaco in 2018, playing ten games, including the last four of the year heading in to Sunday’s Grand Final. The tough and physical Norriss has added versatility to Subiaco’s reserves having averaged 11 possessions and five tackles a game. Had 12 tackles to go with 12 possessions in a round 15 win over South Fremantle.

 

33 – Kaidyn FULLGRABE

Another to transfer to Subiaco this year, Fullgrabe had a big pre-season making a round one debut and playing four league games. Since than Fullgrabe has played 16 reserves matches, adding run and carry to the Subiaco midfield and defensive units. Fullgrabe has averaged just under 15 possessions in reserves so far this year.

 

31 – Ryan WADE

The respected veteran of the Subiaco reserves group, Wade has again shown his determination and willingness to be a team player in 11 games in 2018. Wade has played 77 reserves and 13 league games in the past eight years with Subiaco, adding depth to the midfield and forward goups.

 

30 – Jacob MILLER

The tough rebounding defender, Miller has played 17 league and three reserves games in 2018. At both levels he has averaged over 14 possessions and has provided trademark dash from behind, while also showing strong defensive presence in the Subiaco backline.

 

27 – Tim SUTHERLAND

After an early season injury, Sutherland has gone on to play 12 games in the second half of the season, leading the Subiaco ruck manfully. Sutherland has averaged over 40 hitouts and over 10 possessions a game in 2018. Sutherland’s ability to give the Subiaco midfield first use will be vital in Sunday’s Grand Final.

 

26 – Sean BRADLEY

After a year off in 2017, Bradley returned in 2018 becoming a mainstay of the reserves side with 16 games across the year, mixing roles as a back-up ruck and forward target. Bradley consistently hit the scoreboard kicking a goal a game also averaging nine possessions and six hitouts per contest.

 

25 – Michael BRAUT

A tough key defender Braut continues to set a defensive benchmark in the Subiaco backline. For the second year in a row Braut has played four league and 10 reserves matches, showing improved attacking rebound play averaging over 17 possessions per game.

 

24 – Craig HOSKINS

A veteran and popular figure of the Subiaco senior squad Hoskins has battled injury niggles all season, overcoming them to play 10 games including the past two finals. Hoskins has continued to find the ball averaging over 20 possessions per game. Hoskins goes into the Grand Final with solid form after 25 possessions and seven tackles in the Preliminary Final.

 

19 – Brad STEVENSON

After a career best start to 2018 which saw him win state selection and lead the Bernie Naylor medal, Stevenson’s second half of the year has been riddled by injury. Bouncing back, Stevenson has played the last two games with the reserves kicking five goals in the semi final and adding another in the preliminary final.

 

14 – Ryan BORCHET

A young and talented swingman, Borchet has continued to show promise at both ends of the field. Has played 10 league and six reserves games this year, kicking 11 goals in those six reserves matches.

 

13 – Ray DANIELS

The mid-sized forward has continued to add livewire presence to the Subiaco forward line. Daniels played 10 games for the season kicking 19 goals and averaging just under 14 possessions per game. Has found form at the right time with 12 goals in the past four games.

 

7 – Adam COCKIE

The tough and physical Cockie has been another who has battled injuries in 2018. Has returned to play 10 reserves games in 2018, averaging over 22 possessions and just under six tackles a contest. Another of the senior members who is in line for a league grand final berth, but will otherwise add vital experience and presence to the reserves side.

 

4 – Rhys WATERS

Another senior member of the Subiaco side, Waters returned to play for the Subiaco reserves last weekend, his first game in two months. Waters worked his way into last weeks game finishing with 12 possessions and laying seven tackles. He looms as a crucial inclusion to Subiaco’s reserves team at this point of the year.
