The Subiaco Football Club Women’s team is set to have another player drafted to the AFLW with the highly regarded McKenzie Dowrick among the draft fancies for next weeks’ AFLW draft.

The AFLW draft which will be held next Tuesday, October 23 at Marvel Stadium, is the next chance for the best players from state competition’s to be given their opportunity at the national level.

Dowrick is one of the popular picks for next week’s draft with her mix of toughness at the contest and booming left boot meaning she has made a strong impression on AFLW clubs.

The 18 year old Dowrick has proven to be a versatile mid-sized player, playing roles in defence, working through the midfield and showing an ability to kick goals while playing with the Subiaco Women’s team.

Despite her tender age, Dowrick has been a feature of the Subiaco Women’s team for the past two seasons, having played 24 games including the past two WAWFL Grand Finals.

The 2018 Grand Final performance of Dowrick was particularly noteworthy, with the youngster one of the driving forces as the Subiaco Women mounted a fierce comeback.

Dowrick finished the Grand Final with two goals and a host of key clearances, using that raking left boot to advantage throughout.

At the Subiaco Women’s medal night last month, Dowrick was the runner up fairest and best, showing her consistency and ability to produce outstanding performances.

Along with her strong performances for Subiaco, Dowrick has been a feature of the WA State 18s side, having played state level footy for four years.

Dowrick will likely remain a Lion, with the Brisbane Lions in the box seat to secure her services at the draft next week.

Prior to arriving at Subiaco, Dowrick played her underage footy with proud Subiaco regional sides Kambalda and Mines, where she showed off her obvious talent.

That talent has drawn Dowrick to Perth since 2016 and the hope is that it will take her to the AFL for 2019.

The Subiaco Football Club wishes McKenzie all the best with the draft next week.
