Round 14 Preview

Wednesday, July 10, 2019 - 1:47 PM

This Sunday Subiaco will take on Claremont in a top of the table clash. Bounce down is at 2.15pm at the Lions home ground Leederville Oval.  Be there to watch the Lions take on the Tigers.

We will once again be wearing our NAIDOC jumpers to celebrate the end of NAIDOC Week which finishes on Sunday.

Keep an eye on Subiaco’s social media channels and app for updates across the day and if you cannot make it to the game.

Form

Last week’s match against East Fremantle saw Subiaco continue their winning streak coming away with a 72-point win in NAIDOC Round. Subiaco were able to keep East Fremantle from scoring in the first quarter whilst Subiaco had a fast start. Subiaco kicked 5 early goals in the first quarter and were able to maintain strong use of the ball throughout the four quarters resulting in 12 different goal kickers for the day. Across the ground the Lions were strong enough to use the ball effectively ultimately allowing them to come away with the win.

Last 5 Matches

The last time the Lions went up against the Tigers was in Round 7 of the 2019 season which saw the Lions walk away winners by 24 points. Prior to that last year in Round 17 Subiaco came away 3 point winners. Including these games, the last 5 games against Claremont have seen Subiaco come away winners but with Claremont’s improved form and sitting second on the ladder Subiaco will be prepared for what the Tigers will bring to the game.

Opponents Form

Claremont are sitting in 2nd position on the ladder after 9 wins to 3 losses this season with one of those losses to Subiaco.  They will be hungry to get another win to maintain this position on the ladder therefore Subiaco will have to be prepared and maintain their strong form to keep Claremont from the ball as much as possible. Last week Claremont defeated South Fremantle by 16 points and therefore have had a 5-game winning streak so will not want to let the Lions take this from them.

Strong Defence

Subiaco’s defensive group have shown their strength and composure in recent weeks working together to get the ball out of the opponents forward 50 in an efficient manner yet effectively. This was evident in last week’s win as the backline worked together to keep East Fremantle from scoring in the first quarter. They will be looking to once again maintain composure and try to keep Claremont’s forwards from scoring as much as possible.

Other Grades

The Reserves team will be looking to bounce back on the winning side after last week’s loss and will take on Claremont before the League match at 11:30am. Meanwhile the Colts team will be hungry for another win after last week’s victory and will play on Friday night with bounce down at 4pm. Subiaco’s WAFLW side will take on Peel Thunder at David Grays Arena on Sunday at 2pm.
