Round 16 Recap v West Coast

It was all Maroon and Gold at Leederville Oval on Saturday afternoon for Subiaco, ending West Coast’s four-game winning streak prior to their round 15 bye, with the Lions far too strong recording a 68-point win over the Eagles.

In Captain Leigh Kitchin’s 100th WAFL game, the Lions dominated from start to finish, as they ran out with a 15.9 (99) to 4.7 (31) victory.

Lachlan Delahunty topped Subi’s disposal count and continued his remarkable form with 31 touches, 15 hit outs and five marks, while midfielders Kyal Horsley and Leigh Kitchin finished with 28 and 24 disposals respectively.

Jordan Lockyer and the rest of the defence were great for all four quarters, keeping the West Coast forwards to four goals all game and 11 scoring shots, with 41 Inside 50s.

Ben Sokol kicked four goals for Subiaco including the first of the game from 13 possessions and seven marks, with Ryan Borchet booting three majors, and Max Walters and Tom Edwards-Baldwin both kicking two.

Subiaco sit top of the WAFL League ladder – three wins and a sizeable percentage ahead of Claremont.

NEXT UP

Subiaco plays 4th placed Perth under lights at 7.10pm Thursday away at Mineral Resources Park. Perth will be looking to bounce back from their 7-point loss to Claremont this past weekend, as they look to cement their spot in the WAFL final series.
