Round 17 Reserves and Colts Recap v Perth

RESERVES RECAP

The Subiaco Reserves met with Perth needing a win to not only remain in the top three but also stay two games clear of 6^thposition on the ladder and go one step closer to securing another finals berth in 2019.

The Lions welcomed back Craig Hoskins, Nick Menegola and emerging players Mach Deng and Jordan Faraone into the lineup fresh off back to back byes. The Demons were physical early in the game which led to forced decision making from the Lions in what was a scrappy start to the game with Perth having the better of Subiaco taking a two-point lead into the first change.

The Lion’s would have the better of Perth in the 2^ndquarter on the scoreboard but once again poor disposal and decision making cost the Lion’s more opportunities to pile on the pressure. Goals to Koby Fullgrabe, Tristan Hobley and Ryan Mu saw them go into the main break with an 11 point deficit over Perth. 

The 2^ndhalf was all Subiaco as the piled on 5 goals to 1 with 2 of those coming from dashing rebounder Jacob Miller. Hoskins and Wil Hickmott found plenty of the ball throughout the game with 23 and 21 disposals respectively while Aaron Breman, Ryan Mu and Miller were our only multiple goal scorers with 2 each. The only sour note of the match was a facial injury to the courageous McKenzie Lawrence who clashed heads with Jordan Faraone in the last quarter and took no further part in the game.

COLTS RECAP

Subiaco recorded a comprehensive 58 point against Perth on Saturday at Mineral resources park.

Subiaco where first out of the blocks and showed their intent early having the advantage at the first break 4.2 to a scoreless Perth. Devin Pullyblank in his second game for the season was impressive early up forward for Subiaco kicking two first-quarter goals.

The second quarter was more of an even tussle with Subiaco again dominating forward entries but failing to capitalise on their opportunities. Abraham Clinch and Ben Golding continued on with the impressive form this season and at times looked like the only 2 players on the park regularly using each other to set up scoring opportunities for the Lions. At one stage Clinch channelled his inner Ronaldo and kicked a magnificent goal off the ground which will surely feature in WAFL goal of the week.

After the main break, the Lions picked up where they left off and continued to press the Demons and looked impressive transitioning from defence. Dominating the inside 50 count Subiaco must continue to work on turning these entries into scoring opportunities if they wish to challenge the top teams for the remainder of 2019.

The final term Coach Creedy challenged the team to finish their great work and continue to play team-first football. To the boy's credit, they all responded and finished the job off and ran out victorious by 10 goals. Blake Morris and Campbell Henderson both made their debut for the colts side and both looked like they belong.

GAME CHANGERS

Abraham Clinch  Started in a new role forward and again was a shining light for the side amassing 32 possessions and kicking two goals.

Ben Golding  Mr consistent in 2019  another game leading from the front. Not only is he one of the lions best ball users his tackling is also a highlight.

Chayse Grabe-Paparone  Played in a new position in defence and was fantastic all day, think he may have found his niche down back.
