My week at the Subiaco Football Club

Subiaco Football Club was fortunate to host Max Sarre from Bunbury Catholic College as work exposure for the week commencing Monday 24 May.

Max Sarre is the Grandson of Club Legend Brain Sarre who played 172 League games between 1960-1969, was a Simpson medallist, All-Australian, State Representative and was inducted as a Subiaco Life Member in 1973 and Diehard in 2000.

Max’s uncle; former Subiaco Football Club CEO and current Life Member Kim Williamson further reinforces Max’s family-ties to the Subiaco Football Club.

The club were rapt to have Max around the club for the week, and penned his thoughts about his experience.


Hi I’m Max Sarre, I’m the grandson of club legend Brian Sarre who played for the club in the 1960’s. As I am away from home, I am staying with another Subiaco Legend in Garry Kemp and I’ve spent the last week at Subiaco Football Club for work exposure.

I have been exposed to all different types of sides of football, some days I’ve working in the football side of the business with Dicko (Kristian Dicton) and Stewie (Stuart Berryman) doing a whole variety of tasks such as making weight and height magnets, colts training with Stewie, washed shorts and gurneys and saw the developing side of football.

I worked in the community side of football with Brodie and Zac, I made junior membership packs for the family fun day, helped clean and tidy the little league room, collected and distributed Auskick Stars of the Week Awards around the Subiaco District.

I worked in the hospitality and service side of football with Mack (nicknamed the weapon) and Teigan, with setting up functions upstairs in the bar, put up reserved seats in the home grandstand for the upcoming game.

Finally, I saw the business and CEO side of football with Peter Capes, as I sat in the meeting concerning the upcoming home game and family fun day.

I really enjoyed my time at Subiaco Football Club, I learnt other sides of football which I never knew about and the skills needed for those particular jobs.”
