Subiaco Football Club have strong showing from Under 15's Squad

Wednesday, July 20, 2022 - 3:59 PM

Last week our Subiaco 15’s competed in the WAFL development carnival against Perth, South Fremantle and regional sides, Midlands, Midwest and Great Southern. The 15s who had been training since May performed strongly across the 7 games, showcasing the exciting future of Subiaco Football Club.

Day 1
The first day of the carnival was some closely contested football at Higgins Park where the Metro teams took on Perth and the Kalgoorlie Esperance team kicked off the day against Midlands. Strong defensive efforts from Keenan Rymer kept Midlands from getting on the scoreboard early but it was the clearance efforts from Ollie Moeauri feeding his power forward Albert Leveney who led the Kalgoorlie Esperance side to a strong win to start the day.
Game 2 had the strong Subiaco 2nds go down to the demons after leading at the 3-quarter time break. Efforts from ball magnet Marshell Linto and defensive powerhouse Flamur Dauti weren’t enough to hold off Perth who ran away victors in the last quarter.
The best was saved for last with the Subi 1’s getting over the line in a strong-fought contest. Off to a sluggish start, Subi kept level with Perth but when midfield guns, Lucas Santich and Hudson Walker started firing, the Lions secured a nice win. Jimmy Aylmore was solid down back and Patty Radetic put the icing on the cake with his 5th major.

Day 2
After a day of recovering and team-building activities, Kalgoorlie Esperance was ready for the regional round-robin day on Wednesday. Game 1 was a heated battle against a ruthless Great Southern side and in game 2, Kalgoorlie Esperance proved too strong coming away with the undefeated streak continuing with a win against the Midwest. Co-captain Rory Pumpa stepped up, leading from the front and kicking 3 goals after forward Tish Clark was ruled out. The dangerous combination of Rydn Rae-Anthony and Mahlyk Sambo caused headaches for opposition defenders.

Day 3
The Metro sides took on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval for the final day of the carnival. The 2nds had a tough start to the day, narrowly going down to Souths despite the efforts of Zac Longmuir up forward-looking dangerous and attack set up from Hamish Metcalf on the halfback line.
Subiaco 1sts were off to a sluggish start, letting South’s get out to a 2-goal lead at halftime. A rousing halftime address from Head Coach Derek Jenkins got the team firing in the second half with Martucci swapped into the ruck providing solid ground follow-up and small forwards Dwayne Ryder and Leo Gilla linking up well to pull away winners.

“It was great to see the reward for effort with some strong performances in the carnival games,” Talent Manager Stuart Berryman told Subiaco. “This is a very talented group of boys who put in a lot of work on improving their skills to get to these games.”

Subiaco thanks the hard work of all staff and volunteers who helped throughout the development squad training and carnivals.
