Subiaco will play host for the 2023 Qualifying Final, when they take on Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval on Saturday September 2.

The two sides have had some close battles over the years, and neither will be willing to give an inch.

The road to the WAFL Grand Final starts at Leederville Oval.

FORM

Subiaco had been building momentum towards the end of the home and away season, but go into this weekend’s clash without winning form.

The Lions had four wins in a row prior to last weekend, including a strong win over fellow finalist East Perth.

However, the side wasn’t able to keep it up, falling to top of the ladder East Fremantle.

Despite the loss, Subiaco managed to secure second spot, and in turn the privilege of hosting the Qualifying Final.

Their opponents Peel Thunder have shown form in the past month as well, having won three of their past four matches.

It sets up a tough contest between the two sides, and it could come down to the dying stages of the match to determine the winner.

LAST TIME THEY MET

If recent history is anything to go off, it’ll be another close game come Saturday.

In a low scoring affair at Leederville Oval, Peel Thunder took the honours back in round 13, defeating the Lions by 14 points.

Subiaco led early, but Peel got themselves back in it in the second half to secure the four points.

Kyle Stainsby played an important role in defence on the day, while Jack Mayo provided a strong marking option up forward.

ONE TO WATCH

It’s important for a team to be heading as close to its best when nearing the pointy end of the season.

One who is doing just that is key forward Ryan Borchet.

With 14 goals across the past five games, the 26-year-old is showing his influence, and could prove to be the difference on the weekend.
